Committed to Affordable Homeownership

Preserving Permanently Affordable Housing in Boulder, CO

From its humble beginnings in 1995, the Mapleton Home Association has worked tirelessly to develop Mapleton Park as a permanently affordable community in the heart of Boulder, CO. The partnership of the MHA, Thistle Communities and the City of Boulder created a unique, first of its kind project that used a mobile home park and manufactured homes as a base for affordable housing. At the same time Thistle Communities and the City of Boulder encouraged and aided the residents of Mapleton Park in leasing the land and managing their own Park through the residents’ association, the MHA. As the second quarter of the 21stcentury approaches, the MHA is proud to be a leader in preserving affordable housing in Boulder.

Protecting Resident Rights, Interests and Privileges

While preservation of affordable housing in the city is indeed our top priority, the MHA is deeply invested in being an advocate for the needs of Mapleton Park residents. From negotiating a lease that afforded residents protections and rights that were later written into Colorado State law, to grant writing to finance park-wide infrastructure improvements, the MHA has been steadfast in it’s dedication to improving the lives of everyone in the Mapleton Park community.

Supporting a Thriving Affordable Housing Community in the Heart of the City

Over the years countless residents have stepped forward to carry out the dream of the MHA to keep Mapleton Park a safe haven for low income families. Indeed, 90% of the Park is designated low- and moderate-income, with 124 of the 136 homes dedicated to families whose income is 60% or lower of the Area Medium Income. As a result, the lot rents are lowest in the city. As a result many young families and older adults have been able to obtain not only housing-security in Boulder, but can afford to provide for themselves and their families in ways that may not have been possible anywhere else.

Our Volunteers Are Our Foundation

From its start, the MHA has enjoyed the expertise, hard work and keen insights of its many volunteers. These residents have put in countless hours to make sure that the MHA and the Park thrive. Volunteers work not only on the Board and the Management Committee, but also on temporary working groups both to solve the problems faced by our community, and to enrich the resident experience. Their tireless work has made Mapleton Park a truly wonderful place to live.
